Slave Trade Background
At Jamestown Virginia in North America in 1619 there were many slaves that had been sold as servants. In Africa, slavery was not a new thing but the nature of slavery was not the same as before. Slaves were seen differently then again the slaves had played important roles during this time.
When slavery started to expand more, the triangular trade which involved Europe, Africa, and North America began. The triangular trade was one part of the slavery trade for when England would send goods to Africa in exchange for slaves after slaves were taken to America from England and traded in for raw materials. Then the raw materials were sent to England to be used for more goods. Meanwhile, the slaves were being brought from England to America and the slaves had gone through what's called middle passage. This was when the slaves were being transported through the ships on the bottom of the deck where they had been tied down to each other in tight spaces. Where at times some would die (and there bodies would just sit there till the next day)and they had very bad conditions that they had trapped air heat, body decay and blood. This was when slaves encountered diseases due to very bad conditions.
Slaves were being put to work in the crops of tobacco and they had worked for that throughout the 17th and 18th century. After slaves had been put to work in North east in the sugar plantations and in the South east they worked in gold mines and in the South they worked in coffee plantations. Most slaves had been distributed in the South due to the work that was needed there.
After the American Revolution ended in 1783, the colonists had tried to abolish slavery and the U.S acknowledged their ideas and had taken it under consideration to end slavery. Even though this did not end slavery completely the Reconstruction did end slavery due to the reconstruction being so harsh on the slaves. After the Reconstruction, the U.S began to do the civil rights movement and this achieved so the slaves would have freedom and many rights .
